I am a Canadian who married Jim (a Scot) and after running a bakery business together for 25 years I longed to find a craft to give me a relaxing and useful interest.
| I have always loved cards! As it became more difficult to find the perfect card, I became increasingly interested in creating them myself. I had made gift tags and enjoyed wrapping parcels nicely - and then my friend Joan showed me how to emboss my card - and got me hooked on card-making! |
As I learned more and more I decided to sell a few, and Jim gave me full support to sell from our retail shop in Letham. I sold many cards but soon customers requested personal details or interests to be put onto the card... and Maple Leaf Cards began in earnest! |
| My business is now mainly personalised cards and my customer list has grown wonderfully as one gives... one receives... and they then order for themselves. I am generally given a name, age, occasion, interests/hobbies, occupations, favourite colours or characters and then have wonderful fun putting together a collage to suit the requests! |
I can use photographs of the person or printed pictures of vehicles, etc, to complete the collage. |
| I make many details such as carrier bags for a particular shop the person favours and more commonly, little books for a written detail relating to the person (e.g., career, hobby, children, or a combination of events). These little books are a distinguishing feature of a Maple Leaf Card! There is always something for everyone! |
I personally dedicate the card to the recipient and sign & date it on the back, to let them know it was specially made for them. |
| The joy is in being trusted to create what comes to mind and I have tremendous job satisfaction in the customer follow-up. I have often been told the cards were kept or framed; a rewarding compliment. |
I have a family that support my business, and I am very appreciative of them as they motivate and encourage me, and help me with my website, taking orders and doing deliveries. |
| Thank you to all my present loyal customers - and welcome to my new ones... enjoy browsing my website. |
